In September 2009, Stack was engaged by Containers to Clinics, a Massachusetts-based nonprofit,
to design and build their first prototype clinic out of two 20' shipping containers. The key here is adaptibility, as the
group plans to send the clinics all over the world, where local infrastructure varies widely. In addition, the design
includes a number of features to shed heat and keep patients comfortable in the heat, including the canopy, the highly
reflective finish of the containers, and solar-powered ventilation fans. The units can be shipped like normal containers,
and the prototype is scheduled to head for the Dominican Republic in Spring 2010. The project has been covered in the New York Times,
the Boston Globe,
on inhabitat.com,
and on NPR.
